4 Quick Steps to Register and Start Uploading Your Photos
Question: 1. How do I Register?
Answer: Click on "Register" to create a username and password, enter your email. All the other info is optional.
Question: 2. How do I create my first album?
Answer: Once you login, click on "Create/Order My Albums" box at the top of the page. Click the "New" button. At the bottom of the page it will say New album, rename that text to the name of your album and click on "apply modifications."
Question: 3. How do I upload my files?
Answer: Click on "Upload File" at the top of the page, then click "Browse" to find the file on your computer to upload. Give each file a relevant title and description and place them in your own album which will have an asterisk (*) before the title.
Question: 4. How can I view and edit all of my images?
Answer: First the ArtAdmin must approve your files, which may take up to 24 hours. Once your files are approved and available on the website, then you can click on "My Gallery" to see all of your uploaded photos, edit them as you like and adjust your keywords if needed.
Question: I have read through all of the "How to Get Started" steps but I still need help, can you help me?
Answer: Yes, if you are having trouble please send an email to info@artisticcafe.com explaining the problem and we will get back to you with an answer.
Below we will tell you how to get your files to show up in the main galleries as well as in your own albums.
Keywords
Question: How can keywords help me?
Answer: Keywords allow a copy of your files to show up in multiple locations, i.e. in both your individual album(s) and the main albums that you select. Keywords also help your file to show up in the search results allowing better opportunities for your files to get viewed. Each of the main albums on the home page has one keyword to represent that album, choose the appropriate album keywords for each of your photos.
Question: Can you show me an example of using keywords?
Answer: If you have uploaded an image of a painting that you want to sell then you will want it to also show up in the main album named "Painting" and the main album named "Art For Sale" besides having the photo showing up in your individual album(s). To make this happen include the keywords "painting" and "sell." Each main album on the home page has one keyword that represents that album.
Question: Keywords for search results?
Answer: You will want to add descriptive keywords to each of your files to help people find your images when they do a search. If your painting is of your sister wearing a red hat and blue boots while making a snowman then use some keywords to describe that particular painting, i.e. sister red hat blue boots snowman winter white.
Question: How many keywords should I have for each file?
Answer: After you have at least one keyword that connects your file to one of the main galleries then you can add as many descriptive keywords as you would like as long as they are relevant to each picture.
New features available when you are logged in?
Question: How do I send an "E-Card?"
Answer: Select any image on the Artistic Cafe and send it as an e-card (electronic postcard) with your personalized message. Click on the mailbox symbol above the regular sized images. They are great to email to friends and potential customers to show them your own photos or any photos that you like on the Artistic Cafe. They are also good to introduce people to our site, the more people that know about the Artistic Cafe the better your chances of getting noticed.
Question: How can I set up my "Avatar?"
Answer: You can now add an avatar or a personalized thumbnail image that will represent you. It will be displayed next to a comment when you leave one. Click on "My Profile" and "Manage Avatar."
Question: How do I send a "PM?"
Answer: Send and receive private messages from Artistic Cafe members. Click on "PM" next to the username of an artist.
Question: How do I set up and manage my "Buddy List?"
Answer: Add friends and manage them with your buddy list under the "MY Friends" link. Click on the username of a artist to access their profile page and then click "Become Friends."
General FAQ
Question: How can I contact an artist?
Answer: Click on their username which will bring up their profile. Their profile will contain whatever contact info they have entered such as an email address, phone number, website, company name and other info about the artist.
Question: Why do I need to register?
Answer: Registration gives a member additional features such as uploading, having a favorite list, rating pictures and posting comments, etc.
Question: How Do I login?
Answer: Go to "Login", submit your username and password and check "Remember Me" so you will be logged in on the site if you should leave it. IMPORTANT:Cookies must be enabled and the cookie from this site must not be deleted in order to use "Remember Me".
Question: Why can I not login?
Answer: Did you register and click the link that was sent to you via email?. The link will activate your account. For other login problems contact the site administrator.
Question: What if I forgot my password?
Answer: If this site has a "Forgot password" link then use it. Other than that contact the site administrator for a new password.
Question: How do I save a picture to "My Favorites"?
Answer: Click on a picture and click on the "picture info" link (); scroll down to the picture information set and click "Add to fav". The administrator may have the "picture information" on by default. IMPORTANT:Cookies must be enabled and the cookie from this site must not be deleted.
Question: How do I rate a file?
Answer: Click on a thumbnail and go to the bottom and choose a rating.
Question: How do I post a comment for a picture?
Answer: Click on a thumbnail and go to the bottom and post a comment.
Question: How do I upload a file?
Answer: Go to "Upload"and select the album that you want to upload to. Click "Browse," find the file to upload, and click "open." Add a title and description if you want. Click "Submit".
Alternatively, for those users using Windows XP, you can upload multiple files directly to your own private albums using the XP Publishing wizard. For instructions on how, and to get the required registry file, click here.
Question: What type and size of a file can I upload?
Answer: The size and type (jpg, png, etc.) is up to the administrator.
Question: What are cookies?
Answer: Cookies are a plain text piece of data that is sent from a website and is put on to your computer. Cookies usually allow a user to leave and return to the site without having to login again and other various chores.
Question: Where can I get this program for my site?
Answer: Coppermine is a free Multimedia Gallery, released under GNU GPL. It is full of features and has been ported to various platforms. Visit the Coppermine Home Page to find out more or download it.
Navigating the Site
Question: What's "Album List"?
Answer: This will show you the entire category you are currently in, with a link to each album. If you are not in a category, it will show you the entire gallery with a link to each category. Thumbnails may be a link to the category.
Question: What's "My Gallery"?
Answer: This feature lets users create their own galleries and add, delete or modify albums as well as upload to them.
Question: What's "Last Uploads"?
Answer: This feature shows the last uploads to the site.
Question: What's "Last Comments"?
Answer: This feature shows the last comments along with the files posted by users.
Question: What's "Most Viewed"?
Answer: This feature shows the most viewed files by all users (whether logged in or not).
Question: What's "Top Rated"?
Answer: This feature shows the top rated files rated by the users, showing the average rating (e.g: five users each gave a : the file would have an average rating of ;Five users rated the file from 1 to 5 (1,2,3,4,5) would result in an average .) The ratings go from (best) to (worst).
Question: What's "My Favorites"?
Answer: This feature will let a user store a favorite file in the cookie that was sent to your computer.
Audio Playback Problems
Question: I have problems playing back the audio files, how can I fix this?
Answer: Make sure that you have an up-to-date plugin for your internet browser.
Question: I use FireFox with an older Windows Media Player plugin, where can I update my audio plugin?
